Lesson #1 - You Need a Good Coach
A coach has the ability to inspire. Seeking out inspiring relationships with someone older is necessary for our growth and personal development. We see it in Scripture: Paul and Timothy, Eli and Samuel. These are great examples of leaders and apprentices. Having a godly example to follow is important; someone who knows the game better than us and is able to appreciate our personal strengths and weakness.
I have had a lot of coaches since these early days. Some that showed up so we could have some fun and others that had a passion for the game and wanted us young players to learn and excel. To these passionate coaches it wasn’t just about organizing line changes it was about each kid learning the game and positioning us so that we could excel and contribute to the team’s success. There are certain people that come into our lives that we need to listen to. Good coaches seek out their players during teachable moments, while good players seek out their coaches and ask for honest evaluation and extra help. It is not just about playing the game it is about playing it the very best that you can.
